This has been a wonderful summer, full of excitement, fun, laughter, learning, and exploring.
We worked hard on the way we delivered services and focused on programming that kept
members moving and engaged. By adding structure and activities, we were able to minimize the
number of incident reports, accidents, suspensions, complaints and conflicts. The summer had
occasional snags, but overall the changes have proven to be just what was needed.
I want to give a huge thank you to all the hard work that staff, volunteers and parents have done
over the past twelve weeks. USB Staff have truly answered the call and made the changes asked of
their department. They have been patient, demanding, creative, energetic, and supportive.
Because of Mrs. Pitts, Ms. Toni, Mrs. Pam, Mr. Bernard, Coach Rodney, Mrs. Simpson, Ms.
Christina, Mrs. Rhonda and Mr. Antwan, USB was definitely the place to be this summer. Also,
we could not have done all that was required without the help and dedication from the staff of
Sayler Park and Roll Hill: Ms. Ashanti, Ms. Val, Mr. Tim, Ms. Tyra, Mrs. Jackie, Mrs. Debbie and
Mr. Jamien.
We have had tremendous support from our parents and volunteers. Our parents have assisted on
field trips, donated supplies, and worked with the children in the Clubs. A huge thank you goes
out to Jack and Jill and the Brickman Group for the planting of “Our Garden”. We are currently
awaiting our first batch of beans, cabbage, and watermelon (if the melon ever comes up).
Lastly, USB was blessed to have Ms. Brittany, a student at the University of Notre Dame, working
with us this summer. Ms. Brittany is a remarkable young lady that not only volunteered all of
her time, but truly impacted all the members that she supervised. She shared her energy,
youthfulness, passion for children, and willingness to serve with us every morning until closing.
Ms. Brittany has been that “spark” for us all summer and reminded us that giving is often better
than receiving.
