The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Cincinnati offers tested, proven and nationally recognized after-school and summer programs that provide youth with the knowledge, skills and attributes they need to pursue their dreams and succeed in adulthood. Our programs are carefully designed to support the achievement of youth being ready to leave our Clubs at age 18.

Graduate, Fit for Life, Ready to Serve

This program model calls for our organization to focus on the outcomes that are crucial to a young person’s growth: academic success, healthy lifestyles and good citizenship. These outcomes have led us to improve our data collection efforts, to set specific quantifiable goals and to be overall more accountable for helping children become smart, healthy and caring contributors to society.

At the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Cincinnati, we give our members not only a safe haven, but also a place to learn, grow and succeed. We have done the research, and the results are clear: Education is intrinsically linked to lifelong success and the economic stability of the community. In our GRADUATE program, we offer educational enrichment activities and additional support in order to nurture each member’s individual success inside and outside of the classroom.

In addition to our exceptional education program offerings, we are proud to have certified teachers at every location in order to better serve our kids and prepare them for their futures. With that said, through daily tutoring, one-on-one homework assistance and an online program called Stride Academy™, which has boosted state test scores in math, literacy and science skills in schools across America, we provide our members with the tools and support system they need to thrive in school, graduate with honors and leave the Club with a plan.

Currently, childhood obesity is at an all-time high, poor oral health is a leading cause of absenteeism in primary schools around the nation, and little importance is placed on healthy living. In times like these, the Boys & Girls Clubs help combat the crises at hand with intentional, proven methods of helping the kids in our community get healthy.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Cincinnati has always offered physical activities, sports and outdoor recreation to its members. In our FIT FOR LIFE program, and in an effort to become more innovative in our approach to fitness and health, we now require 45 minutes of physical activity every day through activities such as basketball, dodgeball and Sharbade—a Club favorite that focuses on shoulder, arm and back development. To keep the kids moving and motivated, we also provide various specialized programs and services, like karate, dance, yoga and Zumba classes. And our healthy lifestyle programming doesn’t stop there. The Clubs also serve a free, hot USDA-approved meal daily while teaching the kids habits and skills they need to be healthy inside and out, even when they leave our Club each day.

At the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Cincinnati, we believe that helping hands are the currency of the world. Without community service and outreach, we would not be nearly as civilized or advanced as we are today. In fact, Cincinnati has historically been one of the most charitable and service-oriented cities in America. To uphold that tradition, we must plant the seed of stewardship first and foremost in our children. For that reason, we have created READY TO SERVE, a program dedicated to this initiative.

Starting from the first time they enter our Clubs, we instill in our children the importance of giving back to their community. Whether planning or participating in a community cleanup, extending grace and courtesy to another individual or engaging in a service challenge, members find themselves immersed in hands-on projects that benefit not only themselves, but also the communities in which they live. READY TO SERVE gives members a sense of self-worth, teaches character and leadership skills that extend into adulthood, and empowers them to incite positive change in their surroundings. In the end, our members become upstanding, caring and responsible citizens with a broader worldview, equipped to serve their Clubs, community, country and—ultimately—their world.
